The construction of condominiums in Japan has been concentrated in two major periods. The first is the period of rapid economic growth. Japan's period of rapid economic growth refers to the 19 years of economic expansion from 1955 to 1973. At that time, Japan had been ten years post-war, and industries, including automobiles and electrical machinery, rapidly developed by incorporating the latest technologies from abroad. The second is the bubble period. The bubble period refers to the era of economic prosperity from the late 1980s to the early 1990s. A significant factor behind the emergence of the bubble period was massive real estate investment. The selling prices of condominiums built during that time often exceeded hundreds of millions of yen, and they were referred to as "oku-shon" (hundred-million-yen condos). It was a time when even such high-priced condominiums sold like hotcakes. Currently, the aging of many large-scale buildings constructed during that time has become a problem.
