Long-standing achievements: Two-tier gate adopted by the National Crafts Museum.

It was adopted for the entrance gate at the back of the National Crafts Museum, which opened in October 2020 after relocating to Kanazawa City.

As part of the national regional revitalization policy, the National Museum of Modern Art, Crafts Gallery in Tokyo was relocated to Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture (Hondanomori Park) and opened in October 2020. Ishikawa Prefecture is home to many traditional industries, and Kanazawa City has developed into an internationally popular tourist destination where visitors can experience a diverse culture. Additionally, there are nine living national treasures in the important intangible cultural asset and craft technique category in Ishikawa Prefecture (as of March 2020), which is recognized locally as having the highest number per capita in the country, highlighting the region's cultural and craft foundation. We take pride in the fact that our gate has been adopted in such a historically significant building and a facility of cultural authority.

basic information

The traditional National Crafts Museum and Ishikawa Prefecture seem to be connected by a deep bond. First, the building of the Crafts Museum, known for its red brick architecture in Chiyoda, Tokyo, is the former headquarters of the Imperial Guards Division from the Meiji period. The National Crafts Museum, which has now relocated to Kanazawa City, has also been established using the former headquarters of the 9th Division of the Imperial Army, a registered tangible cultural property from the Meiji period, as well as the Kanazawa Kaikosha, which was used as a social venue for army officers. The 9th Division was one of the divisions of the Imperial Japanese Army and is said to have a distinguished military history, including notable achievements during the Russo-Japanese War, such as at the 203 Hill. Additionally, the design of the exhibition rooms in the former Tokyo National Museum of Modern Art, Crafts, was done by Yoshirō Taniguchi, who is from Kanazawa. In 2019, the "Kanazawa Architecture Museum," a museum about architecture and urbanism, opened in Teramachi, Kanazawa, in his honor.
