Snowmelt conditions at the GALA Yuzawa mountain top station office building and others.
As February arrives and the snowfall has gradually settled down, I went to check the snow melting conditions at "Gala Yuzawa," which is famous for being directly connected to the Shinkansen station and a ski resort. Typically, during the construction year, we conduct follow-ups about three times from the first snowfall until spring to manage and confirm the conditions. However, Gala is currently in the ski season. Since it can only be accessed using the gondola, my visit also served as an opportunity for the children's ski lessons. Both the summit station Cheers and the adjacent office building had good snow melting effects, and they were well managed without any issues. Our company can accommodate exposed piping methods for various roofing styles commonly used in single-family homes, such as tile roofs, AT horizontal roofs, and standing seam roofs, as well as for roofs like this one with folded plate roofing. Please feel free to consult with us.

Mountain snow and village snow
At the beginning of the 2022 season, the plains of the Chuetsu region on the Sea of Japan side were hit by a large amount of snowfall due to "satoyuki" type snowfall. Snow that falls mainly in mountainous areas along the Sea of Japan is called "yama-yuki," while snow that falls more in coastal areas and plains is referred to as "sato-yuki." The surface pressure pattern when it becomes yama-yuki is often characterized by a high pressure in the west and low pressure in the east, with strong seasonal winds. In contrast, the surface pressure pattern when it becomes sato-yuki is often bag-shaped, with weaker seasonal winds compared to yama-yuki.

Follow-up for road heating customers
A rare warning-level cold wave hit Kashiwazaki, Nagaoka, Ojiya, and Uonuma in December, but I visited a customer's home in Uonuma who had adopted road heating. It was an intense snowfall, but it seemed that they were able to cope, which was a relief. The results of the summer construction show in winter, so the satisfied smile of the customer is the best reward.

Snow removal from the external stairs.
The external stairs have handrails, and Mr. F, who has struggled with snow removal for many years, installed eight electric snow-melting mats called "Soheaters" last winter. He expressed his happiness, saying, "It has been a great help not having to remove snow in the morning and evening," and he placed an additional order for one more mat this year. The last mat is trapezoidal. It was custom-ordered to fit the current situation, and after a delivery time of about three months, it arrived before the snowfall and was connected to the upper mats.

Safe with the snow melting net!
"I am worried that the snow from the snow-shedding roof of the external stairs might spill out onto the road. Is there any good solution?" This was the concern expressed by Mr. H, who was at his wit's end due to heavy snowfall for two consecutive years. In response, our company recommended an "electric snow melting net" since the roof area is relatively small, about 8m². The peace of mind that comes from not having snow fall is significant.

Wet snow in Niigata Prefecture
Hokkaido and Nagano Prefecture are known as areas with heavy snowfall, where it seems that there is a lot of "cold, falling snow" and "light, powdery snow." On the other hand, the characteristics of the snow that falls on the Sea of Japan side, including Niigata Prefecture, seem to be "snow that falls even when it is not particularly cold" and "wet snow that sticks heavily." To accommodate short bursts of heavy snowfall, Hokueki Yusetsu has established as standard design conditions to "melt snow while keeping up with 3 cm per hour and 72 cm of new snow per day." We can accommodate both more and less than this, so please feel free to contact us for individual consultations.
