It collects oil and oil films spilled on road surfaces, floors, in septic tanks, oil-water separators, rivers, ponds, and within oil fences. When it absorbs oil, its color changes from yellow to brown, making the absorption clearly visible. Additionally, once the oil is absorbed, it does not re-leach, and the contained bacteria break down the oil into water and carbon dioxide.
