Small vessel "Suimen Sumashi" efficiently collects floating debris and garbage in the harbor.

"Suimen Sumashi" collects floating debris from ports and other areas from the bow of the ship and secures it inside the vessel. Thanks to patented technology, it can be collected even when the ship is stationary.

Small floating debris and garbage in harbors and dams accumulate in certain areas of the harbor. It is difficult to collect them with large vessels, so they are collected manually. This vessel is a prototype developed by the Practical Technology Research Institute as part of a commissioned project for marine technology development. Even when the ship is stationary, it creates a difference in water level inside the vessel using the power of the propeller, drawing in and collecting floating debris, algae, and oil from the bow into the ship. The vessel is 5.5 meters long and 2.1 meters wide, and it collects floating debris and spilled oil in a basket inside the ship. The vessel can be loaded onto a truck, allowing for transportation between harbors.

Applications/Examples of results

It is effective in removing small floating debris in ports that cannot be handled by large ships. The water surface cleaner, mounted on a truck with a crane, performs unloading operations in the port. A boating license is required. Amid growing concerns about environmental issues, it is also capable of recovering floating oil. In dams, reservoirs, and large ponds, floating debris tends to accumulate in specific areas. This vessel not only uses propulsion for suction while moving forward but can also collect debris while keeping the ship stationary in areas where debris gathers. It is also effective in ponds at golf courses and large public parks.
