How to Use Anti-Root Sheets: Methods to Suppress Weeds That Penetrate Asphalt
A robust weed that even breaks through asphalt. Introducing methods to maintain the durability of pavement.
Strong weeds such as those from the grass family can penetrate even sturdy asphalt, leading to the deterioration of pavement. As a countermeasure, the installation of root barrier sheets beneath the asphalt is effective; however, many may wonder, "Won't the sheet melt under the high temperature of the asphalt?" Our company conducts thorough testing. [Test Details] We actually laid our root barrier sheet "Earth Sheet 1260" on a subgrade and placed asphalt (at 140–170°C) on top of it. After a certain period, we retrieved the sheet to check for surface deterioration and measure changes in tensile strength. [Test Results] - There was no noticeable damage on the surface of the sheet after the asphalt was removed. - Changes in tensile strength (unit: N/5cm) Vertical direction: 800 → 574, strength retention rate: 72% Horizontal direction: 500 → 389, strength retention rate: 78% (Our standard value: over 200N/5cm) From the above results, it is clear that "Earth Sheet 1260" can be used without issue beneath asphalt. This is possible because the material of the sheet is polyester, which has a melting point of about 260°C.

The Hakuzaki Corporation is committed to "controlling weeds with environmentally friendly methods and cultivating only the desired plants," providing "weed-free excitement, the best in Japan." In other words, the above-ground parts of the plants are protected from weed pressure with mulching materials, while the underground parts are supported by symbiotic microbial materials that assist root activity.
