How to Choose a Lens (1) Check the CCD size of the camera to which the lens will be attached. (2) Determine the range (field of view) you want to capture with the camera. (3) Check the distance between the camera and the subject. (4) Calculate the focal length (f-value) of the lens using the formula below. (5) Once you have calculated the focal length (f-value), choose a lens that corresponds to that f-value.
