"No matter how many times it's repaired, it quickly falls apart." Tōganezawa Sports Square Skate Park
The park, which used to become worn out quickly even after being repaired every 2 to 3 years, has transformed into a smooth surface and is receiving great acclaim!
The "Higashi Kanazawa Sports Plaza Skate Park" located in Kanazawa City, Ishikawa Prefecture, was installed in a retention basin. Although it should have undergone surface repairs every 2 to 3 years, the deterioration of the surface was severe, and falling would inevitably lead to bleeding. Being in a retention basin, it was also prone to accumulating rainwater, creating an environment that is particularly damaging to concrete. With the cooperation of the Kanazawa City Skateboard Association, the city allocated a budget for surface renovation. Using a large American grinding machine, we ground down the rough concrete surface, filled in the depressions with a special resin made in the USA that can be used outdoors, and created a smooth surface. Additionally, we improved wear resistance and rainwater resistance by applying a penetrating surface hardener called "Seal Hard" and a water absorption suppressor called "Aqua Pel Plus." Finally, we tested the surface with a skateboard to ensure it had the appropriate grip. Not only did it return to a smooth surface, but it was also finished to be a long-lasting surface with wear and rainwater resistance! Local skaters expressed their delight, saying, "I've been skateboarding for 15 years, but this is the first time I've experienced such a surface." Even two years after the construction, the smooth surface continues to be maintained.
basic information
Seal Hard Skate Park Renovation Specifications - Surface Concrete Grinding: Using a large grinder from American company STI to smooth out surface irregularities. - Joint Leveling Grinding: Using a medium grinder to grind down the higher areas of the joint sections to level the height and eliminate discrepancies. - Joint Filling Repair: Filling joints that were about 10-20mm wide with American-made fast-setting repair mortar. - Surface Depressions Resin Filling Repair: Applying American-made special resin with a trowel to areas that remain depressed even after grinding the surface. - Surface Concrete Finishing Grind: Performing finishing grinding to achieve a smooth surface. - Application of Penetrating Surface Hardener Seal Hard: Enhancing wear resistance to withstand abrasion from skateboarding. - Application of Penetrating Water Absorption Inhibitor AquaPel Plus: Reducing rainwater penetration to prevent surface deterioration from rain. - Skateboard Test Run Confirmation: Verifying that the finished surface provides the necessary grip for skateboarding by performing a test run on a skateboard. The penetrating concrete surface hardener was weak against rain and had low effectiveness outdoors. Therefore, by combining diamond grinding with the water absorption inhibitor "AquaPel Plus," we have addressed this weakness and developed a method specifically for skate parks that is currently under patent application.

Detailed information
-
Grinding the surface damaged by rainwater with a large grinder made by American STI Company.
-
The shallow recessed areas that remain after grinding are filled with a special outdoor-compatible resin made in the USA, applied with a trowel.
-
The diamond blade is mounted on a large grinding machine, the same as the grinding process, to smooth the surface through polishing.
-
We will apply the penetrating concrete surface hardener "Seal Hard." With the effect of Seal Hard, the deteriorated concrete will gradually harden and transform. Since Seal Hard is a non-film-forming penetrating type, it will not peel off. However, the penetrating hardener is vulnerable to rainwater, and when exposed to rainwater, the penetrating components will dissolve and wash away.
-
We will apply the permeable water-repellent agent "Aqua Pel Plus." Aqua Pel Plus is a hybrid water-repellent material based on silane and siloxane, which repels water like beads immediately after application. It compensates for the weakness of Seal Hard against rain and transforms it into a strong, rain-resistant concrete.
