At the 37th Invention Award co-hosted by the Japan Invention Promotion Association and the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun, Shunichi Yanagawa from Showden received the Invention Achievement Award for the "Deterioration and Operation Display Device for Protective Elements in Abnormal Conditions." - Overview A technology that displays the deterioration of protective elements such as varistors and arresters. It detects heat generated by the protective element using heat-shrinkable resin, allowing the deterioration state of the protective element housed within a case to be checked through a viewing window. The structure is simple with no electrical or mechanical mechanisms, and it has fewer parts and work points compared to conventional fuse or solder types, which is an advantage. A versatile polyolefin is used for the heat-shrinkable material, making it practical. It has a sales record with JR and private railway companies. In the fiscal year 2010 (September period), over 10,000 units were sold, confirming its practicality.
