Ground reinforcement work SMD method [Certified method]
The closing effect of the inner wing and reliable high bearing capacity, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism certified SMD pile method.
The "SMD (Super Mini Drill) Pile Method," which has received certification from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, utilizes steel pipe piles equipped with outer wings that are 2 to 3 times the diameter of the pile at the tip, along with unique inner wings and bites. During the rotary penetration, the tip is open, allowing soil to enter the steel pipe, which helps suppress misalignment during construction. Upon completion of penetration, the inner wings compact the soil inside firmly, achieving a high bearing capacity equivalent to complete closure, with a tip bearing capacity coefficient of α = 250. This method is a high-quality and eco-friendly foundation technique that generates no construction waste above ground, thereby eliminating industrial waste and reducing environmental impact and the risk of secondary pollution.
basic information
The applicable ground is sandy ground (including gravelly ground) with a tip N value of 6 or higher, as well as clayey ground. The main diameter is available in 8 sizes ranging from 89.1mm to 267.4mm, and the maximum construction depth is up to 130 times the pile diameter from the construction ground surface (11.6m to 34.8m). The tip bearing capacity coefficient is specified as α = 250, and the surrounding soil characteristics (average N value from standard penetration tests and uniaxial compressive strength) can also be considered for the side friction. The material of the steel pipes used is equivalent to or higher than JIS G 3444 STK400 and STK490, and the outer wings are made of material equivalent to or higher than JIS G 3106 SM490, ensuring a thorough quality control system.

Applications/Examples of results
It can be applied as foundation piles in various sizes of buildings with a total floor area of 500,000 m² or less. In particular, it is optimal for projects that strongly require the reduction of leftover soil disposal costs and consideration for the environment around the site, leveraging the strengths of the rotary penetration method that generates no construction waste above ground. Additionally, the machinery used for construction is very compact, making it suitable for narrow sites where large heavy machinery cannot be brought in, tight sites where the transportation of materials is restricted, and residential areas where there is a desire to minimize the sense of intimidation to neighbors, demonstrating reliable construction results in ground reinforcement and foundation work. When the underlying ground is clayey, it is applicable within a pile diameter range of 89.1 mm to 165.2 mm.
