Ground reinforcement work | Gravel soil strategy! Achieving reliable bearing capacity with the advanced Σ-i method.
Smoothly conquer hard layers and gravelly ground! The Σ-i method, equipped with four excavation blades and integrally molded wings, provides reliable anchoring and powerful support to deep supporting layers.
To maintain the stability of architectural structures, it is essential to accurately diagnose the bearing capacity of the local ground and implement ground reinforcement work according to the risk of settlement. When differential settlement occurs, excessive stress concentrates on the structure, leading to damage issues such as structural cracks and distortion of openings. The "Σ-i Method" proposed by Geotech is a small-diameter steel pipe pile method equipped with four excavation blades and an integrally formed spiral wing at the tip of the steel pipe. Its unique four-blade structure exhibits powerful drilling capability, allowing it to penetrate hard gravelly ground and compacted sandy layers that are difficult to construct with conventional rotary penetration techniques, achieving high penetration thrust to reach the target bearing layer. By using a rotary pressure insertion method that does not utilize cement-based solidifying materials, it achieves a completely zero-dirt construction with no construction waste generated. It has obtained the GBR-C performance certification from the Japan Building Comprehensive Testing Institute (No. 10-13 Rev. 2), enabling the calculation of highly accurate allowable bearing capacity from SWS tests and dynamic cone penetration tests. Certified construction management engineers monitor construction data with the latest measuring equipment, ensuring the establishment of high-quality foundation slabs.
basic information
The Σ-i method is a reliable technical specification that has obtained the Architectural Technical Performance Certification (GBRC Performance Certification No. 10-13 Revision 2) from the Japan Architectural Comprehensive Testing Institute. The main shaft diameter sizes range from φ89.1 mm to φ165.2 mm, and the tip spiral wing diameter ranges from φ270 mm to φ400 mm. The maximum construction depth from the ground surface is compatible with up to 130 times the main shaft diameter. Applicable ground types include cohesive soil and granular soil (including gravelly soil). Based on the converted N values from SWS tests and automatic ram sounding tests, objective and rational allowable bearing capacity calculations can be performed.

Applications/Examples of results
This construction method is optimal for small-scale buildings such as houses, stores, and apartments that are three stories or less, have a height of 13 meters or less, and a total floor area of 1,500 square meters or less (for single-story buildings, 3,000 square meters or less). Additionally, it is widely used as a reinforced foundation for retaining structures like L-shaped retaining walls and block retaining walls that are 3.5 meters or less in height, as well as various civil engineering works. Due to its high penetration performance, it demonstrates particularly overwhelming effectiveness in ground reinforcement work at sites where gravel-mixed ground or hard layers, which are difficult to work with using conventional ground improvement methods, are present.
