Ground reinforcement work | Σ-i method generates tremendous support strength with integrally molded spiral wings.
A one-piece molded spiral wing with a maximum diameter of three times the axis diameter achieves tremendous support strength! It smoothly adheres to hard layers, fundamentally eliminating the risk of sinking with the Σ-i method.
To achieve the long-term structural safety of buildings, it is essential to scientifically assess the bearing capacity of the local ground and carry out optimal ground reinforcement work. Constructing buildings without appropriate measures on weak ground or uneven strata can lead to tilting due to settlement and damage to the structure, significantly reducing seismic performance and asset value. The "Σ-i Method" proposed by Geotech is a high-bearing-capacity pile-type ground reinforcement technology that features four excavation blades and an integrally molded spiral wing at the tip of a steel pipe. The diameter of the tip wing is designed to be 2.5 to 3.0 times larger than the shaft diameter, providing tremendous vertical bearing capacity by deeply penetrating and anchoring into the hard supporting ground. By adopting a rotary penetration method that does not use cement emulsion, there is no construction-generated soil (excess soil), achieving a reduction in disposal costs and zero environmental pollution. It has obtained the GBR-C performance certification (No. 10-13 revised 2) from the Japan Building Comprehensive Testing Institute, allowing for objective allowable bearing capacity calculations utilizing SWS tests and dynamic cone penetration test results. Through strict in-house construction management, we build the highest quality foundation slabs.
basic information
The Σ-i method is a reliable technical specification that has obtained the Architectural Technical Performance Certification from the Japan Building Disaster Prevention Association (GBRC Performance Certification No. 10-13 Rev. 2). The main shaft diameter standards range from φ89.1 mm to φ165.2 mm, and the tip spiral wing diameter ranges from φ270 mm to φ400 mm. The maximum construction depth from the ground surface can accommodate up to 130 times the main shaft diameter. Applicable ground types include sandy soil (including gravelly soil) and clayey soil. A rational allowable bearing capacity calculation formula based on SWS tests and dynamic cone penetration test results has been established.

Applications/Examples of results
This construction method is ideal for small buildings such as houses, apartments, and stores that are three stories or less, have a height of 13 meters or less, and a total floor area of 1,500 square meters or less (for single-story buildings, 3,000 square meters or less). It also accommodates the foundation reinforcement of retaining structures like L-shaped retaining walls and block retaining walls that are 3.5 meters or less in height. Due to its excellent environmental performance, featuring high tip support capacity, no soil displacement, low noise, and low vibration, it is widely adopted at various new construction sites where high technical reliability and consideration for neighbors are required.
