Ground investigation - Automatic Static Cone Penetration Test

Ideal for confirming the support layer of steel pipe piles!

The Automatic Ram Sounding test has a high correlation with the N value and allows for high-precision investigations as a complementary survey to standard penetration tests and SWS tests. The Automatic Ram Sounding test is one of the dynamic cone penetration tests, with a relatively simple investigation method and a penetration capacity of around N value 50, enabling continuous data collection (Nd values) every 200 mm. Additionally, a high correlation has been observed between Nd values and the N values from standard penetration tests.

basic information

A cone with a tip angle of 90 degrees and an outer diameter of 45mm is attached to the tip of the rod. A hammer weighing 63.5kg is continuously dropped and struck from a height of 500mm using an automatic continuous penetration device, and the number of strikes Ndm for every 200mm of penetration is recorded. Additionally, to correct for the effects of surrounding friction, if the number of strikes Ndm exceeds 5, the rod is rotated to measure the rotational torque.

Applications/Examples of results

The SWS test (Screw Weight Penetration Test) can measure even "strata with an N value exceeding 30," which was difficult to measure before. Automatic measurements can be taken up to a depth of 30 meters, and data can be verified on-site. Thanks to a compact, self-propelled survey machine, measurement work can be conducted in a short time. Due to miniaturization, labor-saving, and automation, it is offered at a lower price compared to standard penetration tests.
